Spring Workshop Info:
SHANGHAI, CHINA MAR
30th - APR 4th, 2010 USD988
What to expect at the workshop:
Shanghai is the most developed metropolis in China, it is where the east
truly meets the west. With its gorgeous world-famous skylines, bustling
city vibes and
old-countryside of its adjacent areas, we will have abundant opportunities
to make some great images of both modern and traditional China.
Every morning we will start shooting about a half-hour before sunrise,
ascertaining that we have arrived at a given location for the best
possible light and the best possible picture taking opportunities,
whether that location be the countryside, or the city itself. During
the mid of the day,
we will spend several hours to polish your post-processing skills using
photoshop and lightroom. Of course, we won't misss delicious lunch
during this period. No later than 3pm, we will again head out to shoot
some amazing late afternoon/evening
images. On the last day, we will meet at lunch and "woo-ahh" over
the great images you have taken these days. Overall, this will be a exciting
photographic venture in a different cultural setting hence a unique experience!
What will we cover technically?
The main focus of the workshop is to open up your mind's eye, keenly
identify
photographic opportunities and make creative decisions, then properly
execute it in terms of exposure and composition. The process will cover
all elements of design: line, shape, form, texture, pattern and color,
as well as techniques like panning, freezing motion, selecting lenses,
using of graduated neutral density filter and polarizing filter, etc.
Furthermore,
you will also learn to make realistic HDR(High Dynamic Range) images
from concept to final
output; and learn how to shoot great night scenes.
In addition to landscape photography, I will also demonstrate how to
shoot "strobist-style" environmental portraits with one
hot-shoe flash plus some portable light modifiers. The topics range from
lighting equipment, basic knowledge about the use of hot-shoe flash
and light modifiers, to portrait lighting techniques.
